With a committed team of seasoned campaigners and some ‘fresh blood’ in its camp, the United Workers Party (UWP) unveiled a bold vision for the future of Saint Lucia at its Massive National Public Meeting in Micoud North on Sunday, where thousands gathered to witness the official presentation of all 17 UWP candidates.
In a powerful address, Political Leader Allen Chastanet announced seven transformative policies that the Party vows to implement with urgency upon returning to office. The UWP asserts that these policies are people-centered, designed to alleviate the burdens Saint Lucians face daily and restore fairness, security, and opportunity for the nation.
The seven policies are as follows:
– Immediate Removal of the 2.5% Levy:We will end the broken promise of a temporary tax that was supposed to last just two years.
– Significant Reduction of Gas Prices: We will put an end to the price extortion that Saint Lucians have endured for the past four years.
– Abolition of the Dam Dredging Fee: We will eliminate unfair charges imposed on customers in the south who do not receive services from the John Compton Dam.
– Guaranteed Free Tertiary Education: We will ensure that all students attending Sir Arthur Lewis Community College have access to tuition-free education.
– Reintroduction of Border Control & Expansion of the K9 Unit: We will strengthen national security to effectively protect our citizens.
– Pensions for Banana Farmers: We will grant dignity and recognition to banana farmers who have not contributed to the NIC.
– Comprehensive National Health Insurance Coverage: We will provide every Saint Lucian with access to $75,000 worth of annual health coverage.
The UWP emphasizes that these policies are not mere promises but concrete, actionable measures aimed at immediately relieving families, empowering the youth, and strengthening national resilience.
“Saint Lucians have suffered enough. It is time to lift the burdens from the backs of our people and create a future where everyone has a fair chance,” declared Chastanet.
The UWP firmly stands ready to lead with urgency, compassion, and competence, calling on citizens across the island to “join the movement to Save Our Saint Lucia.”
