Four months after residents of Tet Morne, Choiseul, were allegedly promised by government officials that the road in their community will soon be fixed, sections of it, remains deplorable.
The promise was made to them after torrential rain on May 13, 2025 had caused the road to crumble, making it difficult to traverse and leaving it with crater-like potholes.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Pauline Antoine-Prospere, who had visited the area after the deluge, had allegedly told the residents that action to address the problem is on the horizon.
It was residents of the community who took it on their own to block some of the large potholes on the roads with stones. They were assisted by a businessman from another community, who owns an ATV business, after he realized that persons renting his vehicles were having a difficult time navigating the potholes.
It was a heart-wrenching sight to see parents and their children wading through the gushing water on the road to get to their destination during the torrential rains.
According to residents of the community, they are so annoyed by the response of the authorities to their problem that they will not be voting in the upcoming general elections.
Apart from Antoine-Prospere, the Member of Parliament for Choiseul/Saltibus, Bradley Felix and a representative of Rayneau Construction and Industrial Products had also allegedly visited the area.
“We will not be voting this upcoming general elections whether they fix the road or not. We have been taken for a ride by the authorities,” a resident told this reporter on condition of anonymity.
“No one in authority seems to care about us. I don’t want anyone to come at my home begging for votes,” another said, with a voice filled with emotion.
In the meantime, residents say they will continue to do the little they can to improve the condition of the road.
