Grand celebrations are set for this weekend, marking the official opening of the Gros Islet Mini Stadium, which will also host Semi-Professional Football League (SPFL) matches.

Minister for Youth Development and Sports and Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet, Kenson Casimir, announced that the planning committee has organized an unforgettable event filled with sports and entertainment for fans, kicking off today (Saturday) at 6:00 p.m.
Kenson confidently dubbed the event “A Legacy of Sports in Gros Islet,” highlighting the extensive work completed to upgrade and construct the facility, a testament to the rich sporting heritage and notable athletes from the northern community.
“We are officially renaming the Gros Islet Playing Field this Saturday (September 6) while hosting semi-pro games,” he declared at a recent media briefing.
In between the semi-pro games, he stated, “we will rename the stadium and the stands, alongside presenting other exciting events planned for the venue.”
Casimir emphasized, “We are using the theme: The Legacy of Gros Islet, and we will honour those who have significantly contributed to sports development in our constituency.”
He anticipates a large turnout at the Gros Islet Mini Stadium, where government representatives and other esteemed guests will be in attendance for pivotal announcements.
Looking ahead to the event, the Gros Islet MP stated, “I’m excited about what we have accomplished. A tremendous amount of work has gone into establishing a mini-stadium in Gros Islet.”
Expressing the anticipation surrounding the event, Casimir remarked that he would not reveal all the surprises just yet. However, he confirmed the stadium would be renamed after a prominent figure from the community who has contributed to sports development, with others being recognised for their outstanding performances both locally, regionally and internationally.
“This is a significant opportunity to celebrate the legacy of sports in Gros Islet. The community has long craved this recognition for over 30 years, and now we will finally honour the rich sports culture and history of Gros Islet.”
Entertainment will feature renowned local artists, including Lucian Soca stars like Ricky T, Keisha K, Ezra, Imran Nerdy, Pantime Steel, and other musical icons from the country, alongside a range of engaging activities.
