SPFL Resumes

The St. Lucia Semi Professional Football League {SPFL} got off to a scintillating restart Wednesday evening at the Desruisseaux Playing Field. 

In the first of two Tier 2 encounters, Roseau came up against home team Desruisseaux in what was expected to be an encounter that could have gone either way.

It was former national player Edd Fred who opened the scoring in the 36th minute to put Roseau ahead in the game.

Coming off the carnival break, players looked a little off their game highlighted by an abundance of unforced errors.

One such error was an own goal scored by Jaylan Jimmy to level the score at 1-1 as the teams shared the points.

The second encounter saw an inform National Under 20 team face Micoud. Much of what was expected became reality with the National youngsters roaring to a first half lead of 4 – 0. Striker Shevon Byron opened the scoring in only the 3rd minute of the game with the second netted in the 7th minute by Thierry Morille. Niyal Fontinelle added his name to the score sheet in the 30th minute before Byron securing a brace just before the close of the first half.

In the second half, a brief lapse in concentration saw the Micoud team threaten to make a game of it scoring 2 quick goals by Levi Altidore and Stefan Clercent in the 73rd and 75th minutes respectively.  But that was not to be with the youngsters regrouping to see Shevon Byron scoring his hattrick in the 95th minute sealing a 5-2 scoreline.
