Today marks an exciting opportunity for workers across Saint Lucia to participate in a transformative movement that emphasises the importance of sustainable and healthy lifestyles.
Sneaker Day returns – and this year, it’s bigger and more impactful than ever. As a proud annual awareness campaign organised by the National Insurance Corporation (NIC), Sneaker Day encourages everyone to lace up and take action, both literally and figuratively.
An NIC spokesperson noted that, “With non-communicable diseases (NCDs) responsible for an alarming 82% of premature deaths in our beautiful nation, we cannot afford to take this issue lightly.”
The message of Sneaker Day is not just a call to action; it is an urgent plea for change.
This year, the NIC invites the entire workforce to wear their corporate attire alongside their favourite sneakers.
The NIC says it is thrilled to introduce two groundbreaking additions to this year’s event that will elevate the nation’s collective impact:
– The First-Ever Healthy Food Fair: In collaboration with the Saint Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association and the National Culinary Team, the NIC invites individuals to Derek Walcott Square from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a vibrant showcase of nutritious, mouthwatering local dishes.
– Stride for Sustainability: Embrace a new approach on Sunday, June 29th at 6:00 a.m. with a unique collaboration between the NIC, National Consumers Association, and Saint Lucia Moves.

The event will take participants from Massy Mega at Choc to Massy on the Waterfront and back, blending health advocacy with environmental responsibility.
As a NIC spokesperson passionately puts it, “Together, Saint Lucians can walk the talk towards a healthier, greener future.”
NIC Director Matthew L. Mathurin adds, “We’re thrilled to see Sneaker Day evolve from just a movement to a comprehensive vision encompassing physical, nutritional, and environmental well-being. By promoting sustainable habits, we’re making healthy lifestyles accessible for everyone, helping us reverse the NCD epidemic for a brighter, healthier Saint Lucia.”
