The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is investigating two separate fatal shootings in Castries, while a man has been charged in connection with an earlier homicide in Micoud.
The first of the two shootings occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 16, when officers attached to the Marigot Police Station responded to a report of a shooting at Belair, Castries, at about 12:39 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body of a male individual along a concrete road, with apparent gunshot wounds about his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical practitioner.
The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Jamal Thomas of Belair, Castries.
Later that very same day at approximately 11:10 p.m., officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department responded to another report of a shooting, this time at Ravine Chabot, Castries.
Officers found a lifeless male in a heavily vegetated area with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical practitioner.
He has since been identified as 56-year-old John Ferdinand, also known as “John Slade,” of Ravine Chabot, Castries.
Investigations into both shootings are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police have formally charged 32-year-old Angus Popo of Anse Ger, Micoud, in connection with the August 8 homicide of 28-year-old Nick Daniel of La Courville, Micoud.
Daniel’s body was discovered on Saturday, August 8, inside a concrete structure at Anse Ger, Micoud, bearing apparent wounds to his face and back. Popo was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.
A post-mortem examination conducted on August 11 determined that Daniel’s cause of death was neurovascular shock secondary to traumatic brain injury.
Popo was formally charged with murder on Wednesday, August 12. He appeared before the Second District Court on Thursday, August 13, for a bail hearing and was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is appealing to anyone with information that may assist with the ongoing investigations to contact the Crimes Unit.
