The Saint Lucia Tennis Association (SLTA) has been recognised with the prestigious ITF Development Award for the Pillar of Participation by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) due to its exceptional contributions to the sport.
Scyla Murray, administrator of the National Tennis Centre, proudly accepted the award at the Central American & Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) annual general meeting held in Panama City, Panama.
The citation praised Saint Lucia for its impressive progress in tennis development.
Murray received the award with gratitude from COTECC President Persio Maldonado and ITF Regional Development Officer Cecilia Ancalmo.
In a statement, the SLTA made it clear that this recognition highlights the dedication and vision of the association. It reflects the relentless efforts of its executive leadership, coaches, development officers, and volunteers who have all played vital roles in the sport’s growth on the island.
The SLTA is unwavering in its commitment to inclusivity and opportunity. Through initiatives such as the Schools Tennis Programme, Grassroots Development Programmes, and National Talent Identification Pathways, the association has successfully expanded access to tennis across communities in Saint Lucia.
“The association prioritizes providing young athletes with essential access to coaching, equipment, and competition—both regionally and internationally,” it stated emphatically.
In the past year, Saint Lucia has asserted itself in top-tier international competition, fielding a men’s team in the Davis Cup and debuting a women’s team in the Billie Jean King Cup.
In addition to maintaining consistent representation abroad, the SLTA has effectively hosted international tournaments at home and is dedicated to establishing pathways for player development.
The ITF Development Award for the Pillar of Participation reinforces the SLTA’s mission to develop a robust, inclusive, and sustainable tennis culture that nurtures emerging talent and encourages participation at every level.
