A Saint Lucia-based Eastern Caribbean construction company has landed a $100 Million contract to build a hospital in Montserrat.

The island’s ZJB Radio announced earlier this week that “In a landmark move,” the Government of Montserrat officially signed a 100 million EC dollar contract for the tiny island’s new Hospital.

The radio station reported that “The contract was won by Construction and Industrial Equipment Limited (CIE) from St Lucia after a lengthy process.”

CIE owner and Managing Director Rayneau Gajadhar, in an online FB post earlier this week, said: “It’s another great project for the people of the Caribbean and CIE is happy to be part of another very important project for the benefit of our Caribbean people.”

He added, “It feels good to be a part of a project that will bring long-lasting benefits to generations.”

Gajadhar also promised that “The Rayneau Group will continue to deliver our projects at the usual high standard and ensure participation of as many citizens of Monserrat.”

It’s the second hospital being constructed by CIE overseas after one in Dominica two years ago.

CIE is also contracted to finish the St. Jude Hospital in Saint Lucia, which remained out-of-action for 12 years after a fire in 2009.

Rayneau is also involved in infrastructural expansion, aggregate production and agricultural export in St. Vincent The Grenadines.

Montserrat is a small non-independent Eastern Caribbean colony of Britain, which still runs local affairs directly and funds the island’s infrastructural development

The local company – which is also the regional agent for South Korea’s Daihatsu brand of heavy equipment — also has business interests in Guyana.
