FIVE months after escaping lawful custody while under medical care at the Owen King European Union (OKEU) Hospital, Randy Charles was recaptured while hiding at Barre Denis, Castries.
This was not the first time Charles had escaped lawful custody. His first attempt of freedom was successful but short-lived. On April 17, 2023, Charles made his first dash to freedom with a charge of burglary hanging over his head. Police were swift in recapturing him the following day in Cul-de-Sac.
Following his capture in Cul-de-Sac he was taken to the OKEU hospital for medical care and was said to be in a stable condition then and under police supervision.
Despite being under police supervision at the hospital, Charles found the opportunity to escape again on April 22, 2023, this time managing to elude police for five straight months.
It was on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Barre Denis, Castries that police finally caught up with him.
Charles was subsequently charged with the offences of Obscene Language, Threatening Words, Insulting Words and Escaping Lawful Custody. He was escorted to the First District Court for the purpose of bail and he was remanded into custody.
According to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, it is committed to ensuring public safety and will continue to work hard to bring criminals to justice.
