Minister Poyotte Speaks on Advancing Gender Equality at CSW66 in New York

The sixty-sixth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) got underway on March 14, 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The two-week session is being held under the main theme: “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes”.

Representatives of member states, UN entities, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) -accredited non-governmental organisations from all regions of the world have been invited to contribute to CSW66. The Session will also focus on the review theme, “Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work” (agreed conclusions of the sixty-first session).

Saint Lucia is being represented at CSW66 by Gender Affairs Minister Hon. Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte.  The Gender Affairs Minister participated in a Round -Table Ministerial Discussion on March 15, under the theme, “Climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes; advancing gender equality through holistic and integrated actions from global to local”.

Week- two of the CSW66 will be conducted virtually.  The sixty-sixth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women culminates on March 25, 2022.  Hon. Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte is expected to resume ministerial duties on March 22, 2022.
