Minister Poyotte Speaks on Advancing Gender Equality at CSW66 in New York

The sixty-sixth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66) got underway on March 14, 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The two-week session is being held under the main theme: ā€œAchieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmesā€.

Representatives of member states, UN entities, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) -accredited non-governmental organisations from all regions of the world have been invited to contribute to CSW66. The Session will also focus on the review theme, ā€œWomenā€™s economic empowerment in the changing world of workā€ (agreed conclusions of the sixty-first session).

Saint Lucia is being represented at CSW66 by Gender Affairs Minister Hon. Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte.Ā  The Gender Affairs Minister participated in a Round -Table Ministerial Discussion on March 15, under the theme, ā€œClimate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes; advancing gender equality through holistic and integrated actions from global to localā€.

Week- two of the CSW66 will be conducted virtually.Ā  The sixty-sixth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women culminates on March 25, 2022.Ā  Hon. Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte is expected to resume ministerial duties on March 22, 2022.
