Organizers are actively promoting the 14th edition of Chanté Kwéyòl, scheduled for October 24, at Serenity Park, Sans Soucis.
In 2012, Gordon “Chacom” Leon embarked on an ambitious project dubbed “Annou manjé, dansé, chanté Kwéyòl” – a Kwéyòl Calypso competition. The event blossomed, and in 2015, it transitioned to the National
Kwéyòl Song Competition open to all genres of music.
Since then, with the event rebranded to Chanté Kwéyòl, the platform has evolved over the years, giving life to more than 100 original Kwéyòl songs performed by artistes in different genres.
Chanté Kwéyòl, the National Kwéyòl Song Competition, is the only event of its kind in Saint Lucia. On one stage of the competition, any genre of music can be performed. Over the years, Chanté Kwéyòl has produced a repertoire of cadence, reggae, ballads, R&B, calypso and Dennery Segment, among other selections.
This year , the organisers anticipate a bumper event , with 19 artistes confirming participation to compete for the Kwéyòl Monarch title with one song each. Backed by the Xtreme Band, the event promises a variety of genres of music, all performed in Saint Lucia’s indigenous Kwéyòl language.
