St. Lucia’s senior volleyballers were back on home soil Monday after securing medals at the 2026 ECVA Tournament held in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
The August 12 – 16 tournament saw St. Lucia win bronze in the female division and silver in the male division.
The St. Lucian ladies, widely expected to do better, played BVI in the third-place playoff, demonstrating why they should have been competing for top honours. The St. Lucian squad seemingly made light work of the host country beating them 3-0 for the bronze medal. The final scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-22.
After forcing their way into the finals, the St. Lucian men had to face a well-oiled St. Vincent and the Grenadines team determined to leave their mark on this year’s event held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola.

The St. Vincent outfit seized the first set with a score of 25-17. St. Lucia replicated that score line to secure the second set to set up, at the time, what looked like a five-set showdown. However, the St. Vincent machinery had other plan and grabbed the next two set and consequently the title, winning 25-13, 25-22.

The St. Lucian volleyball fraternity only recently enjoyed victories in the Under-20 ECVA Beach Volleyball Tournament in St. Kitts, July 10-12, where the females secured bronze medals while the boys blazed through to secure the title. At the recently held Windward Islands School Games, in St. Lucia in July, St. Lucia enjoyed a clean sweep as both the girls and boys dominated from start to finish to help St. Lucia win the overall honours.
