
Bonne Terre Blazers are one step closer to securing their second league title after a thrilling 62-59 victory over the defending champions, the Soufriere Kings, in Game 1 of the KFC National Basketball League Finals on Wednesday evening at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.
With this win, the Blazers take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series, putting them just one game away from championship glory. Fans were treated to a dramatic contest that showcased back-and-forth action.
The Blazers started strong, leading 16-11 in the first quarter and extending their advantage to 27-17 by the second quarter. However, the Kings rallied with an impressive 11-0 run, capped by a stunning buzzer-beater from Linzell Alcee, taking a 28-27 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Kings managed to pull ahead again, entering the final quarter with a slim 46-44 lead. As the game reached its climax, the Blazers showed remarkable composure and determination.

Led by the Louison brothers, they regained control and held on for the win. Troy Louison contributed a standout performance with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while his brother Andre added 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Lance Louis was named KFC Player of the Game, scoring 12 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, including crucial baskets late in the fourth quarter.
The Blazers’ execution down the stretch proved decisive, as they converted 13 of 16 free throws (81.25%) and controlled the pace with sharp ball handling.
Despite the loss, the Soufriere Kings displayed their championship pedigree. Kimani Charles led the team with 16 points and 4 assists, while Jayzee Saltibus recorded a massive double-double with 13 points and 20 rebounds.
Clayton William contributed 11 points, and Linzell Alcee added 10 points, including the impactful halftime buzzer-beater. This marks the Kings’ first Finals defeat in three years, setting the stage for an exciting Game 2 on Friday. The Kings will need a win to keep their championship hopes alive, while the Blazers aim to close out the series and lift the trophy.
