SALCC meets with Latin American Ambassadors

.

The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) senior leadership met with several Latin American ambassadors recently to discuss, among other topics, possible collaborations in support of cultural exchange and promotion.

The Venezuelan Ambassador Lieff Liubliana Escalona Barrueta, Mexican Ambassador Luis Manuel López Moreno, Cuban Ambassador Yenielys Vilma Regueiferos Linares, and Brazilian Ambassador Colbert Soares Pinto Junior shared their ideas for linkages that could be made between SALCC and the respective embassies. These linkages include scholarship opportunities, short-term exchange programmes and increased instructional support for SALCC’s Spanish programme.

One key initiative that was discussed was the possible revitalization of the Latin American and Caribbean Film Festival. The proposed festival would serve as an engaging means of promoting Latino and Caribbean culture, especially for Spanish students at all educational levels.

Educational institutions also seek to broaden the field for higher learning. Prior to the meeting with Latin Ambassadors, SALCC management also engaged the Taiwanese Ambassador as well as some US Universities.

The College says it is grateful for the embassies’ continued interest in collaboration and looks forward to actualizing these discussions in impactful outcomes. The SALCC management believes the June 11th meeting is laden with potential opportunities for local students.
