Youth Football Kicks Off: Ministry’s U-16 Tournament Begins May 13

Seventeen secondary school teams are set to compete for glory as the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-16 Football Tournament kicks off on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. The opening clashes will take place at the Corinth Playing Field, setting the stage for a month of exciting football action.

Opening Day Fixtures – Tuesday, May 13 (Corinth Playing Field, Group B):

  • 11:00 a.m.: Babonneau Secondary vs. Corinth Secondary

  • 1:00 p.m.: Leon Hess Comprehensive vs. Patricia James Secondary

Friday, May 16 – Double-Header Action:
Group B (Corinth Playing Field):

  • 11:00 a.m.: Corinth Secondary vs. Patricia D. James Secondary

  • 1:00 p.m.: Babonneau Secondary vs. Entrepot Secondary

Group C (Grande Riviere Playing Field, Dennery):

  • 11:00 a.m.: Anse Ger Secondary vs. Micoud Secondary

  • 1:00 p.m.: Bocage Secondary vs. Grande Riviere Secondary

Matches will be hosted at four main venues: the Gros Islet Playing Field, Corinth Playing Field, Grande Riviere Playing Field in Dennery, and the Soufriere Mini Stadium. Games will follow FIFA regulations and feature 40-minute halves with running time.

Tournament Schedule:

  • Preliminary Round Ends: Tuesday, May 27

  • Quarterfinals: Friday, May 30

  • Semifinals: Tuesday, June 3

  • Finals: Friday, June 6

With teams divided into four groups, each match will be crucial in determining who advances to the knockout stages.

  • Group A: Castries Comprehensive Secondary, Sir Ira Simmons Secondary, St. Mary’s College, Saint Lucia Sports Academy

  • Group B: Babonneau Secondary, Corinth Secondary, Leon Hess Comprehensive, Patricia James Secondary, Entrepot Secondary

  • Group C: Anse Ger Secondary, Bocage Secondary, Grande Riviere Secondary

  • Group D: Piaye Secondary, Choiseul Secondary, Soufriere Secondary, Vieux Fort Comprehensive

The tournament promises to showcase the island’s budding football talent, with schools vying for the coveted Under-16 title.
