Despite rumors to the contrary, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre stated this week that Wayne Girard, the Finance Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, is still dedicated to his constituents.
“For the past few months, where has Girard been?” The prime minister gave an answer to this query at a Public Meeting on Sunday in Anse la Raye.
There has been a talk that he is hardly seen by the people he is supposed to represent in parliament. Last Sunday, Prime Minister Pierre tried to downplay this by stating that Girard needs to be in his office to make sure that Saint Lucia’s economic development continues beyond three years.
“The biggest complaint you hear about Wayne is that you don’t see him, but do you know why? Because Wayne is in the Ministry working on the Sovereign Wealth Fund, which is scheduled to be approved by parliament on Tuesday. For his kids and grandkids, the nation will be secure thanks to the Sovereign Wealth Fund. Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre clarified, “Wayne is working on that in his office.”
Girard told supporters that although he is not always immediately available whenever his constituents sought his help, they got it. “Whether it’s from the school, the church, or other people, you might not see me, but you always get the help you need right away; I don’t mess with it. Because I think the dignity of the people of Anse La Raye/Canaries should come first, I might not post it on Facebook.’
“With a government of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, you will achieve your dreams; stay with us… and continue to give us the support,” he said, outlining an ambitious plan for the community.
“We have put in a lot of effort… we are delivering the advantages of tourism to every corner of this nation,” Girard stated.
He told supporters about upgrades that are forthcoming in every single sporting facility in the constituency, whether it be Canaries, Jacmel, or Vannah, and also the construction of a call centre.
“We will be benefiting from two underwater sculpture parks … one for snorkeling and one for diving… We went into parliament, and we amended the Agricultural Incentives Act, and the reason we did that is because we in Anse La Raye/Canaries are going to be in a position to collect the revenues for what happens in our territorial waters… We are setting up a foundation to be able to manage those funds,” Girard said.
He said recreational spaces in his constituency will be upgraded in very short order
“I believe we need to develop this constituency holistically that we could stand proud wherever we go… “We are going to be developing a new police station for Anse La Raye, we are about to relocate the existing officers… whilst we deal with the technical aspects,” Girard noted.
Girard told constituents on Sunday that the Canaries Wellness Centre will be improved; there will be a brand-new wellness centre in Jacmel and a brand-new wellness facility in Vannah.
