Denver Allwyn Alphonse Jr., a rising star from Saint Lucia, is making significant strides in the regional competitive cycling circuit and is poised to establish himself in the global arena.
In a recent conversation with Voice Sports, 17-year-old Denver expressed his strong eagerness to tackle upcoming challenges, including his first International Race this year. In June, he will compete in the Trophy De La Karibe (Junior category) in Martinique, and he is also tentatively scheduled to participate in the Panam Championships.
For the past two years, Denver has been training with the Karaibe Culture Sport cycling club in Martinique while actively competing in local and national events- all in a bid to further sharpen his skills.
Since his move to the neighboring French Isle in 2023, he has skillfully balanced his academics and sporting commitments. He attributes his development to the invaluable mentorship of his Martinican coach, Alex Noreskal, as well as Saint Lucian veteran cycling coach and administrator, Cyril Mangal.
Denver showcased his talent last weekend in the La Classica Robertine in Martinique, finishing 5th in the Under-19 division and 12th overall among 33 riders. He is ready for this weekend’s Grand Prix Milleco Shop championship races, which feature a 7.2 km Time Trial on Saturday and a demanding 132.8 km Road Race on Sunday.
These competitions will serve as crucial preparation for the major events on the horizon.
Supported wholeheartedly by his father, Denver Sr., who is deeply invested in his son’s growth and passion for cycling, Denver is eager to fully develop his talents.
