On Thursday night, more than 100 sailors convened at the Sandals Golf and Country Club in Cap Estate for a farewell event.

The event featured presentations from local tourism officials and a representative from the World Cruising Club (WCC), who commended the sailors for their courageous endeavour throughout their 16-month voyage around the globe.

Louis Lewis, CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), highlighted the enthusiasm and uplifting essence of this expedition, with the small island nation of Saint Lucia acting as both the starting point and central focus of the event.

He emphasised the distinctive local hospitality, culture, attractions, and rich traditions that rendered the destination an outstanding place to visit.

“We are proud to see this circumnavigation expedition begin on our beautiful island, Saint Lucia and we recognise its value in promoting our tourism,” declared Lewis.

In discussing Saint Lucia’s vibrant history and diverse ancestry, he remarked, “Our island is exquisite, and our culinary delights and traditions reflect our rich heritage. I wish you success on your journey and look forward to welcoming you back in 2026.”

Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire characterised the ARC participants as some of his most esteemed visitors to the island. He described their global expedition as an exceptional journey that showcases the courage and determination of intrepid sailors.

Recognising the lively spirit among the sailors, he stated, “I have addressed many gatherings, but none make as much noise as you do. You are a dynamic group committed to enjoying life. Some have rightly described this expedition as a journey toward freedom—a chance to discover yourselves while reveling in what true freedom means.”

Paul Tetlow, Managing Director of the World Cruising Club (WCC), acknowledged the valuable contributions of local partners, particularly the Events Company of Saint Lucia, which handled the catering and hospitality for the visitors. He referred to the global event as “an adventure of a lifetime.”

A WCC publication states, “Starting from Saint Lucia and Australia, World ARC offers the voyage of a lifetime—26,000 NM of tradewind circumnavigation, with our team ensuring a warm welcome in every port.”

World ARC offers a unique blend of cruising alongside a supportive community, providing numerous opportunities for exploration. Participants have the option to engage in a complete circumnavigation or select to sail for half of the rally, taking part in shore-side activities as a unified group while capitalising on optimal weather conditions. Families with children, retirees, and individuals embarking on a ‘grown-up gap year’ are all welcome to participate in World ARC.

“Our dedicated rally team ensures you maximize your time ashore while providing peace of mind at sea,” the WCC publication notes.
