The National Workers Union (NWU) has called on Labour Commissioner Mr Joseph Joseph to give urgent and immediate attention to and for his department to intervene in a situation at the National Housing Corporation (NHC).
According to the NWU, it was reported that on the afternoon of Friday, 10 January 2025 at 4:30 p.m., three employees namely, Mrs. Remina St. Marie, Mrs. Marcia Nelson-Joseph and Ms. Juanita Bynoe each received termination letters by way of redundancy effective immediately.
“The NWU was not engaged or consulted in this clear, calculated and deliberate act to disregard and violate the provisions of our Collective Agreement and the Labour Act Cap. 16.04. Your urgent attention is needed in this matter as this kind of behaviour, if not addressed, is about to set a dangerous precedent in the industrial relations environment in the country,” wrote the NWU’s Secretary-General Johann M. Harewood to Joseph.
The letter was copied to several persons including Prime Minister Philip J Pierre and the International Labour Organisation.
