SAINT Lucia ace sprinter Julien “Juju” Alfred continues to dominate the global stage, earning significant accolades that cement her status as a regionally and internationally premier athlete.
At just twenty-three years of age, the ‘Sprint Queen’ from Ciceron has amassed an impressive collection of international awards, solidifying her place as a finalist for the prestigious World Athlete of the Year award.
In late December, Alfred added two more significant honours to her ever-growing list of achievements. The respected American website FloTrack named her the Breakthrough Performer of the Year, a title she rightfully earned through her remarkable performances, including a World Indoors 60m title, Olympic gold and silver medals, and a Diamond League 100m title – all historic firsts for Saint Lucia.
Alfred was distinguished as one of the Persons of the Year by the renowned Caribbean-American magazine Everybody’s. She shares this accolade with fellow Olympic gold medallist Thea LaFond-Gadson of Dominica and four other remarkable Eastern Caribbean athletes.
Herman Hall, the Grenadian-born publisher of Everybody’s, highlighted that the selection was made based on her outstanding performances on the iconic tracks of the Stade de France.
