Recently, 156 students from all eight districts across the island showcased their talents in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Primary Schools’ 3K Road Race in Vieux Fort.The race commenced at La Tourney/La Ressource and culminated at the George Odlum Stadium/St. Jude’s Hospital.
Hakim Mondesir, representing District 8, dominated the competition, finishing 1st overall and clocking an impressive 11 minutes 20.17 seconds in the boys’ Under 13 age group. He was closely followed by Aiden Biscette from District 5, who finished in 11 minutes 42 seconds. Rounding out the top five were Kem Deterville (3rd, District 8, 11 minutes 49.42 seconds), Levin Joseph (4th, District 6, 11 minutes 54.77 seconds), and Taj Dick (5th, District 1, 12 minutes 17.92 seconds).
In the Girls Under 13 category, Anala Willaim from District 7 led the pack, finishing strong at 12 minutes 58.87 seconds. Neah Mortley from District 3 secured 2nd place with a time of 13 minutes 01.82 seconds, while Danielle Lambert (District 1, 3rd, 13 minutes 40.17 seconds) and Myia Evans (District 1, 4th, 13 minutes 44.49 seconds) followed closely.
In the Boys Under 11 race, Amir Octave from District 8 crossed the finish line first at 11 minutes 21.49 seconds, followed by his teammate Shavorn Regis in 2nd place at 12 minutes 11.68 seconds. Jahvis Emmanuel (3rd, District 1, 12 minutes 17.56 seconds), Gavriel Daniel (4th, District 2, 12 minutes 20.70 seconds), and Vanile Eugene (5th, District 3, 12 minutes 30.42 seconds) also performed exceptionally.
In the Girls Under 11 category, Dreamer Longville from District 8 asserted her dominance throughout the race, winning with a time of 13 minutes 04.62 seconds. Hadassah Jules, also from District 8, followed closely behind in 2nd place at 13 minutes 05.42 seconds.
The top competitors included Octavia Octave (3rd, District 6, 13 minutes 12.35 seconds), Cianne Herman (4th, District 8, 13 minutes 54.55 seconds), and T’mya St. Clair (5th, District 2, 14 minutes 20.31 seconds).
Gold and silver medals were awarded to the top finishers in each age category, with bronze medals presented to those finishing 3rd to 12th, alongside trophies for the top three winners.
Additionally, in December, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports organized a series of thrilling road races to evaluate the resilience and skills of young athletes in a mini-marathon format.
The Inter-Primary School Road Race Championships 2024, held over one week, featured athletes engaging in enjoyable competitions and showcasing friendly rivalries while navigating challenging routes.
