BASED in New York, the Saint Lucia National Day Committee (SLNDC) hosted its annual Lantern Competition on Friday, December 13th at the Saint Lucia House in Brooklyn, New York.
The event was supported by the Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York and the Saint Lucia House Foundation.
The festivities commenced at 7:30 PM and included a variety of entertainment such as fashion parading, drumming, calypso, folk, and Christmas carol singing. The highlight of the evening was the Lantern Competition, featuring six participants who were judged for their creativity and craftsmanship.
Peter Dieudonne and Adella Seally served as the masters of ceremonies, with William Marcellin, Elbert Saturin, and Jason Nanane acting as judges. Winners received cash prizes, courtesy of Party Life Lounge, located at 31 Truxton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11233.
The evening’s entertainment kicked off with performances by young drummers Akil and Adina Francis, followed by an eclectic performance from Rowan Fernelon, known as Temper, who presented his original song “Kabawe.” The night was further enlivened by a dynamic performance of traditional folk and Christmas carol singing by Quake USA Cultural Organization.
Christian Seally emerged winner of the lantern competition.
Looking ahead, the SLNDC will host its Annual Prayer Breakfast on April 12, featuring prayers, entertainment, food and motivational speakers.
