Nancy Charles, Mobilisation Officer of the United Workers Party (UWP), has stated that she is completely prepared to defend herself against the Defamation Lawsuit filed by Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire.
Charles spoke to THE VOICE yesterday about the case and expressed her unshakeable confidence in facing the legal hurdles ahead, claiming that she had convincing proof to back up her charges against Dr Hilaire.
Charles, who also spoke with THE VOICE on Sunday, revealed that Hilaire had not filed a lawsuit against her but had expressed his intention to do so at last week’s House Sitting.
However, THE VOICE has discovered that a lawsuit has been filed.
Information reaching THE VOICE on Monday indicated ongoing difficulties in locating Charles to deliver the lawsuit documents.
According to a source, Hilaire’s team has been looking for Charles since last week (Tuesday) to formally serve her.
The same source continued: “As of yesterday, they were still unsuccessful in their efforts to serve her with the legal documents.”
However, Charles was bewildered when she learnt that she could not be traced.
Charles stated, “I told Dr. Ernest Hilaire that I am here (at the studio), ready and waiting. As far as I am concerned, I have not been served; so, serve me.”
She said that she told Dr Hilaire’s team about her whereabouts at the Revv Up studio, where she was taking part in a programme.
I told them I live in Grace, Vieux Fort, and my house is an orange house on the side of the road.” So, come and serve me,” she insisted.
“I am prepared to defend myself whenever I am served (with) any paper. “I stand by the fact that I have made no disparaging remarks about Ernest Hilaire,” she stated confidently.
Charles went on to say, “I have provided documents demonstrating that Ernest Hilaire has a questionable history.”
Charles stated that Hiliare must answer several issues.
Hilaire claims that Charles made damaging and inaccurate allegations about him, which have the potential to significantly harm his character and professional reputation. He is requesting considerable restitution and a clear repudiation of her remarks.
In the political environment, tensions are high between Hilaire, a powerful member of the ruling party, and Charles, a significant figure in the opposition UWP.
