Junior Tennis Players Shine at Regional Tournament

Saint Lucia’s junior tennis players Alhil Cyril and Jaelyn Henry gave another good showing on the regional circuit, this time at the recently concluded Trinidad Summer Bowl COTEEC Regional Tennis Tournament which took place at the National Racquet Centre.

In the Girls Under 14 singles main draw/quarterfinal round, Saint Lucia’s Jaelyn Henry was defeated by Abba Campbell-Smith from Trinidad & Tobago, 6-0, 6-3.

She also partnered with Elyse Ferguson from Trinidad & Tobago for the Under 14 doubles, and the pair lost to Karissa Mohammed & Taegan Yeates both from Trinidad & Tobago, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, in the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

On the boy’s side, Alhil Cyril secured his spot in the finals of the boy’s singles Under 14, defeating Mateo Gutierrez from El Salvador 6-3, 7-5.

In the finals, Cyril played the No.1 seed, Brandon Bridgewater of Curacao, for the boys Under 14 singles championship award, losing 7-6(4), 6-1. In the boy’s Under 14 doubles quarterfinals, Alhil Cyril and his partner Jacob Jacelon from Trinidad and Tobago defeated Ridello Boodai & Jaiden Gomandi from Trinidad and Tobago to advance to the semifinal round.

In semifinal action, Alhil Cyril & Jacob Jacelon were defeated by Nirav Dougdeen & Brandon Bridgewater both from Trinidad & Tobago, 6-1, 7-6.
