GMC United defeated Monchy United FC in the grand final of the GIFL/MUFC Carasco and Son U13 Invitational Tournament, played at the Gros Islet Playing Field last Sunday.

It was a tough encounter, which resulted in a 3-2 win for GMC, proving the tough rivalry that permeated throughout the competition among the youngsters.

But on the day that it all mattered, GMC came out on top yet again, to stamp their authority in an enthralling junior league challenge.

In the third-place playoffs, Nyah FC defeated Northern 6-5 on penalties, after the encounter had ended in a 1-1 deadlock.

While addressing the gathering, at a post-match awards presentation, president of Monchy United and main organizer of the competition Charde Desir acknowledged the support from the parents and other sports fans.

He urged more parents to turn out and support the youngsters, since it provides the young athletes with a tremendous sense of ‘pride and joy’ and they feel “Big …and proud” to perform before their parents.

A total of 11 teams, consisting of clubs from Central Castries, Marchand, Babonneau and the Gros Islet community participated in the event. “I want to encourage the clubs to keep playing and keep training, because we have more tournaments coming …and we expect the clubs to be ready for that, very soon,” he said.

“Next year, I am expecting to see much more parents …and remember parents, when you come and support the game, the players feel like ‘super humans’, and they play and play to make you proud,” declared Desir.

Peggy Earns, of Carasco and Son congratulated the top three teams in the competition, who, according to her “have done extraordinarily well to get here.” With Carasco and Son marking the milestone achievement of its 100th year in business, in Saint Lucia, she said, the company took the opportunity to sponsor the tournament in collaboration with the organizers.

“Congratulations to all the players and to the parents and supporters of all the teams,” added Earns.
