Soccer Action Continues in SLFA League Competitions

New Generations beat out all competitors to emerge winners of the St. Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. Zonal Boys Club Under-17 competition, which culminated with two exciting matches at the Technical Center in Grande Riviere Dennery, last weekend.

The final preliminary match turned out to be an exciting and challenging affair, though opposing sides were found waning in the goal scoring zones.

Prolific striker Baggio Edward netted a brace in a hard-fought battle to help New Generations get past Black Panthers 2-1. Baggio got his goal from the penalty spot in the 42nd min and the clincher in the 81st minute. Earlier, Brenton Fanis had equalized for Black Panthers with an own goal in the 48th min.

Northern United secured the Third Place Trophy with a 3-1 win over Valley Soccer; as they won convincingly.

Scoring for Northern were Nathaniel Leo in the 69th and 80th min and Kenrick Antoine in the 4th minute.

Mervin St. Romaine scored a penalty for Valley Soccer in the 35th minute.

Meanwhile, the SLFA Inc. President’s Cup was scheduled to kick off yesterday with 12 teams participating in two groups.

Group A- Agardianz FC, Aux Lyon United, Big Players,

CT Foundation, Garrand FC and Nyabinghi.

Group B – Black Eagles, DCYO, Desruisseaux United,

Faith United, Shambala Shiloh and Uprising.

The competition will be played in a single round robin format with the top two teams advancing to the semi finals and finals. Matches will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Dennery and Desruisseaux Playing Fields respectively.

The fixture of matches for the opening rounds are as follows: Garrand vs. Nyabinghi – Dennery Playing Field,

Big Players vs. CT Foundation, Faith United vs. Shambala Shiloh – Desruisseaux Playing Field, and Uprising vs. Black Eagles.

In other updates; the Saint Lucia Under-20 Women team arrived safely in Nicaragua where they will be participating in the CONCACAF Under-20 Women qualifiers.

Team Saint Lucia were due to take on Costa Rica, on Tuesday, in their opening match.

Elsewhere, the La Clery Football League Boys Under-15 competition concluded, last Saturday (April 15) with two matches played.

At the La Clery Playing Field guest team Flames FC and Radics played to an exciting goalless draw, despite both being presented with numerous scoring opportunities. However, poor finishing cost them dearly.

At the Agard Playing Field, CT Foundation of Roseau ended their campaign emphatically defeating Agardianz 5 – 0; with goals from Leroy Marius with a brace and the other scorers were Joe Evans, Andrew St. Romain and Cornelius Edmund.

At the Prize Giving Ceremony, Radics emerged champions of the in-House competition, followed by Agardianz and La All Stars.

The overall competition was won by CT Foundation, followed by Flames FC and Radics.

All winners were presented with their trophies and medals courtesy of the La Clery Football League and the St. Lucia Football Association Inc.

In closing, President of the La Clery Football League Bruno Leonce acknowledged the teams’ participation and for making the tournament a success while heaping praise on the community support especially from Agard.

Meanwhile, in the Desruisseaux Football League / SLFA Inc. 2022 – 23 knockout tournament; Green Monsters came up against El Ninos on Sunday (April 16) at the Desruisseaux Playing Field.

The game lived up to all expectations as El Ninos edged out Green Monsters 3 goals to 2. Scoring for El Ninos were Keyon Emmanuel in the 24th, Trevon Chulan an own goal in the 35th, and Dahvel Edward in the 8th minutes of added on time.

Green Monsters got their goals from Shadrick Flavius in the 25th and Jonah Grafton in the 77th minute.

Desruisseaux United edged out La Couville 2 – 0 with goals from Davian Jetrun and Edric Popo in the 28th and 39th min respectively.

Matches continue today with Ti Rocher FC coming up against Blanchard United.
