Saint Lucia Crushes Saint Vincent In Windwards Senior Women 50-Overs

Saint Lucia continued their dominance in the 2023 Windward Islands Senior Women 50-Overs Cricket Tournament with a crushing 189-run defeat of St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG)  at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground [DSCG],  on Easter Monday.

Taking first knock, Saint Lucia totalled 268 for 5; highlighted by a super opening stand of 143 between skipper Malika Edward 62 (103) 8×4, and Namiah Marcellin 68 (104) 9×4.This was their second century opening partnership in as many matches.

Qiana Joseph, who had a reprieve before she had scored, stroked 61* (45) 9×4.  Joseph put on a 5th wicket stand of 37 with Nerissa Crafton who hit a cameo 28 (9), with 5×4, 1×6.

Set a challenging 269-run target, SVG collapsed in spectacular fashion and were bowled out for an abysmal 79 in 24.3 overs – the lowest total in the tournament, to date. The only resistance coming from skipper Jannillea Glasgow (34) and Kimone Homer (17), who shared a third-wicket stand of 26. No other batter reached double figure scores.

Zadia James returned a superb spell as she ripped through the opposition’s middle and lower order. Unrelentingly accurate, the left-arm spinner finished with incredible figures of 5 Overs, 2 Maidens, 6 Runs, and 5 Wickets.

Left-arm seamer, Selena Ross picked up 2 for 14 from her 5 overs.

Final Scores:

Saint Lucia Senior Women – 268 / 5 (50 overs).

SVG Senior Women 79 all out (24.3 overs).

Result: Saint Lucia won by 189 runs.

Meanwhile, Grenadian skipper Anisha Thomas with 74* (79) led from the front as the ‘Spice Isle’ ladies won their first match in the tournament with a 4-wicket win over Dominica at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Dominica won the toss and batted and were bowled out for 195 in 37.3 overs. Gem Eloi top-scored with 52 (70), 9×4; while sharing partnerships of 65 with Ronette Sanford (20),  53 with skipper Pearl Etienne (35), and 35 with Abini St. Jean (27).

The wickets taken were shared between Carena Noel 3 / 36, Aria Fortune 3 for 25, and Taylor Dickson 3 for 20.

Grenada chased down the target of 196 with skipper Anisha Thomas and Rachael Francis putting on an opening stand of 75, followed by a third-wicket stand of 69 between Thomas and Cassie Williams 32.

There was a wobble from 170 for 3 to 187 for 6, but Thomas carried the team home safely with 22.1 overs remaining.

Final Scores:

Dominica Senior Women 195 all out (37.3 overs).

Grenada Senior Women 197 / 6 in (27.5 overs).

Result: Grenada won by four wickets.
