Know Your Labour Act

The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce continues to seek to enhance the capacity of its members by providing upskilling opportunities in key areas. Ensuring that key Team Members are familiar and well versed in the laws and procedures set out in the St, Lucia Labour Act Cap. Cap16.04 of the Revised Laws of Saint Lucia, that guides the relationship between employees and employers.

A one day, powerful, informative and practical workshop that will guide employers on how to handle some of the key and most troublesome areas of the Labour Act will be held on April 25th 2023. This Workshop will again be facilitated by the Law Offices of Goddard-Dorville Legal, where members of the Business Community are invited to participate in an interactive, engaging and rewarding learning experience.

Goddard-Dorville Legal will walk the business community members through the Legislation, its application and most of all, share some recommended approaches, and templates that will bring significant clarity and thereafter, ease and comfort in what can sometimes be a bothersome component in Employer/ Employee Relations. With years of experience in this field of practice and now in successfully facilitating similar workshops, with outstanding results and a firm understanding of the issues, case law and precedent, participants will once again leave empowered to work within the Law and treat employees fairly.

Goddard-Dorville Legal Facilitators of this “Know Your Labour Act Workshop”, was established in August 2017, of which the principal attorney-at-law has been practicing in Saint Lucia since 2005. Mrs. Cheryl Goddard-Dorville is a well-known attorney whose practice extends across Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean. Interpretation/Compliance with Local Laws and Regulations, Employment/Labor Laws and Due Diligence are a few of the topics Goddard-Dorville Legal has consulted upon, written about and defended over the years.

In the two-part workshop, participants can expect a thorough conversation on the genesis of the Act and context-based approaches to critical laws. The hands on a practical workshop structure offers ample opportunity for Human Resource and Team Leaders to engage the facilitator with important questions and concerns. The workshop will permit participants to take a closer look at their current employee contracts and administrative letters, with suggestions to update these documents and other practices to be in keeping with their rights and responsibilities.
