SLSA Wins Inter-Schools Under-19 Football

In an epic final at the Saint Lucia Football (SLFA) Inc. Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Monday, the St. Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) emerged champions of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under-19 football competition.

After a 1-all draw in regulation time, SLSA won the penalty shoot-out to outplay the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS).

SLSA took the lead in the matchup against SCSS with a 31st minute strike from the boots of prolific goal scorer Traylon Henry.

SLSA went 1-up at the interval, as the opposing side looked to create goal scoring chances.

SCSS came back on the counterattack in the latter session and went all out in search of the equalizer. Cassian Jn. Baptiste converted in the 67th min to raise the hopes of his team.

Both teams fought gallantly for the go-ahead goal which never materialised as the game ended 1 – 1.

In the ensuing penalty kicks, SLSA outscored SCSS 4-2, with the SLSA goal-keeper Christopher Clarke effecting two fine saves, while Eymani Butcher scored the winning penalty.

In further updates, St Mary’s College (SMC) takes on the St Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) in the finals of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Schools Under-15 football competition, scheduled for today, Wednesday 7th December, at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere.

The semifinal matches were completed, last Friday, at the SAB playing field with SMC defeating Micoud 2-nil; while SLSA beat Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School (SCSS) 1- 0, at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.

Over the weekend, the SLFA Inc. Zonal Boys Club Under-10 and Under-17 Championships continued with some thrilling matches.

Grande Riviere/Marisule/Corinth (GMC) defeated Monchy FC 4 – 0, with Josh George scoring a brace, while Jayden Etienne converted a penalty, and a goal from Mikel Castang.

Challengers drew with Upton Rebels 1-all. While the southern-based Rebels team took a 20th min lead through, Lindel Augustin, Cassian Jn. Baptiste equalized with a 78th minute goal.

RV Juniors and Bays FC played to a 3-all draw. Juniors held a 3-1 advantage in the game, but following a 3 – 1 advantage, Bays FC fought back to level the game.

Scoring for Juniors were D ’Shawn Polius15th, Nicholie Antoine 17th and Omari Joseph 29th minutes, while Bays got their goals from J – Kwan Augustin 27th, Ernilus Edward 40th and Ker Ryan Solomon 42nd minutes.

Monchy earned a hard fought 1 – 0 victory over VSADC with a goal by Andretti George in the 32nd minute.

Dennery Community Youth Organization (DCYO) defeated Piton Travel Young Stars 3 – 0 with a brace from Shaquille Williams with a goal in the 22nd minute and a penalty in the 54th minute, and a goal from Denilson Jones.

Pioneers got past CT Foundation 2-1, with goals from Shion Medric and Tashawn Batholmy in the 79th and 82nd minutes respectively, while D’Andre Poyotte netted for CT Foundation in the 23rd minute.

Northern United defeated Lancers 4 – 0 with goals from Lyndon Constantine in the 12th and 64th, Kendrick Antoine 27th and Samuel Louisien in the 41st minutes.

Meanwhile, an SLFA official disclosed that the Official Window for the transfer of players from one club to another, began from December 5   and ends on 6th January 2023.

The SLFA advises that all transfers must be done in FIFA Connect by the respective clubs.
