The top four contenders in this season’s Blackheart Knockout Football Tournament will battle for finalists’ spots – as the semi-finals come off at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground [DSCG], today (Saturday).

After some exciting, grueling and challenging rounds, the semis-qualifiers are ready to rumble on the big stage.

The semis match up, at the DSCG, will feature:

Anse la Raye vs. La Clery- 7.00p.m

Dennery vs. Gros Islet – 9:00 p.m.

Interestingly, the final quarter-final match produced an astonishing ‘element of surprise’ as Anse la Raye created a major upset, Wednesday evening, by eliminating the BKF defending champions Vieux Fort South.

A packed capacity crowd of fans and football lovers turned out to witness a ‘nail-biting thriller’, at the Soufriere Stadium.

And in a match that went down to the wire, Anse la Raye persevered to emerge victorious in a penalty-kicks tussle, following a 1-all draw at regulation time.

Noah Nicholas broke the deadlock to give V-Fort South the lead  in the 66th minute, but Anse la Raye fought back relentlessly for  Toyan William to get the equalizer in the 81st minute.

Anse la Raye won over V-Fort South 8-7 in the ensuing spot kick tussle, to make it to the semis.

Vieux Fort South won the popular tournament in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. The tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anse la Raye has won the BKF competition once before and sports pundit contend that this victory puts the west-coast team in good stead for a shot at the championship title.

In the earlier match, Dennery defeated Desruisseaux 2-nil, with second half goals scored by Javel Faucher (77th minute) and Alex Regis (86th minute).

Meanwhile, the grand BKF final is set for next Saturday (October, 29) at the DSCG.
