The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Women’s 100m Finals ended on Wednesday (3 August) 2022 with Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred taking home the silver medal, sending the island into a frenzy.
Alfred, who bested her opponents in the heat and semi-finals finished six seconds behind Jamaica’s five-time Olympic gold medalist, Elaine Thompson-Herah time of 10.95s.
Prior to her medal-winning race, the 21-year-old sprinter admitted feeling confident going into the finals. “I feel good. I just have some more stuff to work on, but we’ll get it. I’m taking one race at a time, and, hopefully, be better at every round.” “Alfred said.
Prime Minister, Hon. Phillip J. Pierre and Opposition Leader Hon. Allen Chastanet joined in the chorus of congratulations after Alfred’s run of 11.01 seconds.
