The Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC) will today, Saturday April 30th, 2022 stage its very first event for this Carnival season, the National Carnival Queen Pageant Audition at the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort and Spa from 11a.m. The audition is closed to the public.

The call for applicants to register and audition went out via social media platforms on Tuesday April 19th, 2022 and subsequently on national radio and television stations.

“We are so excited about the response we got over what we thought was a very short time frame. Already, we have confirmation of twenty young women from across the island who have registered to audition this coming Saturday” says Tamara Gibson, Chairperson of the CPMC.

“We expect some very strong contenders this year who will vie for the coveted title of Carnival Queen” she added.

The reigning Carnival Queen is Wenia Verneuil who won the crown in 2019. Miss Verneuil who was sponsored by the Laborie Credit Union also captured the award for best interview along with the award for best evening wear and best talent. The Carnival Queen Competition was not held in 2020 nor was it staged in 2021.

The format of Saturday’s audition will require the registered applicants to participate in four key areas: swimwear, talent, interview, and gown. Applicants are also expected to engage in a one-on-one conversation with the judges. Eight finalists will be selected to participate in the National Carnival Queen Pageant which is set to take place on Thursday July 7th, 2022.

Successful candidates will be revealed at a subsequent time, an unveiling which is normally orchestrated in uniquely creative ways via mainstream media and social media.

The National Carnival Queen Pageant remains one of the most popular major events on Saint Lucia’s calendar of events and attracts hundreds of patrons each year.
