Carnival Gets the Green Light in Martinique

According to the French publication RCI Martinique, there will be a carnival in Fort-de-France.

During a presentation with various stakeholders on Saturday (February 19, 2022) a new circuit was developed for the carnival days and presented.

While the celebrations will take place in Fort-de-France, like last year, it will be outside the city center with an agreed-on a 6-kilometer-long circuit.

Revelers are expected to join on Sainte-Thérèse and parade along the wide Maurice Bishop boulevard before passing through the port and returning to the starting line at Dillon stadium via the RN9.

Although COVID-19 is in high circulation in Martinique, the indicators all show a downward trend. Last week Friday, the curfew in the French island was adjusted to 10 p.m., a direction many are regarding as a closer move to freedom.

Authorities called on carnival-goers to be partners in ensuring the celebrations are held safely.

According to the carnival calendar, Carnaval de Martinique is scheduled to begin on Sunday, February 27 and end on Wednesday, March 2.
