Saint Lucia records 98 new cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE ā€” Today Friday August 20, 2021, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs received confirmation of 98 new cases of COVID-19. These new cases are from a batch of 392 samples processed at the Ezra Long Laboratory on Thursday August 19, 2021. The new total number of cases diagnosed in country to date is 6955.

Confirmation has also been received of the recovery of 33 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently to 1193. Presently, four of these active cases are requiring critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

As we start the weekend, everyone is encouraged to adhere to all protocols stipulated by the Government of Saint Lucia. It is extremely important that individuals avoid social activities. Also, anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms should avoid contact with others and visit a community respiratory clinic to get tested.

Vaccination continues to remain an effective measure in the fight against this COVID-19 pandemic. To date, a total of 34, 464 individuals have received the first dose of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 27, 102 have received the second dose. Anyone planning to be vaccinated tomorrow Saturday, August 21, 2021 can visit the Grande Riviere Wellness Center Grounds in Gros-Islet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
