Saint Lucia records 156 new cases of COVID-19

PRESS RELEASE — Today Friday August 27, 2021, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs confirms 156 new cases of COVID-19. These cases are from a total of 517 samples processed at the Ezra Long Laboratory on Thursday August 26, 2021. These cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 7869.

The Ministry of Health also reports one new COVID-19 related death. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 71 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 31. COVID19 related death #31 is a 44 year old male from the Soufriere district The Ministry of Health extends condolences to family, friends and loved ones of this individual.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 21 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently in country to date to 1851. Three of the active cases are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.

Since the commencement of the Pfizer vaccine, 1,424 individuals have received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and 65 individuals received the second dose. The Astra Zeneca COVID19 vaccine is still available at the various vaccination sites around the island. To date 34, 779 individuals have received the first dose of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 27, 606 have received the second dose. Tomorrow Saturday, August 28, 2021 the COVID-19 vaccines will be given at the Vigie Sports Complex and the Vieux-fort Wellness Center Grounds. As result of the adjusted curfew, the vaccination sites time for Saturday, August 28, 2021 is now 9am to 1pm.
