Saint Lucia records 24 new cases of COVID-19 in Three Days

Over the course of the Easter weekend, between April 2, 2021, and April 4, 2021, a total of 270 COVID-19 tests were conducted at the Ezra Long Laboratory. From these samples, the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation of 24 new cases of COVID-19.

April 2, 2021: 86 tests conducted with 16 positives
April 3, 2021: 89 tests conducted with 4 positives
April 4, 2021: 95 tests conducted with 4 positives

All of these individuals were seen at various community respiratory clinics where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In keeping with the national COVID-19 testing protocol, healthcare practitioners placed each of these individuals in-home quarantine while awaiting the return of their test results. Arrangements have since been made to place these individuals in isolation. The contact tracing for these newly diagnosed individuals is underway.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 23 individuals bringing the total number of active cases in country to date to 125. Presently, one of the active cases requires critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 4297.

The Ministry of Health also reports two COVID-19 related deaths bringing the total number of deaths in country to date to 63. Death #62 is a 77-year-old male from the Castries district with an underlying medical illness and death #63 is a 69-year-old male from the Castries district, also with an underlying medical illness. He was one of the critical patients in care at the Respiratory Hospital.
