National Football Continues this Weekend at Three Venues

FOLLOWING the postponement of all games last weekend in the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc. Boys Club Championship powered by Smalta, the showpiece resumes with matches in both the Western Zone in Anse La Raye and the Southern Zone at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds (PMG) in Vieux Fort today (Saturday 10th) and tomorrow Sunday 11th October.

Today in the Western Zone, Under-11: Valley Soccer versus Monchy FC and FC Pioneers vs. Northern United.

From 12.00 noon, CT Foundations takes on Flow Lancers and 1987 All Stars plays T Valley.

From 2.00 p.m. in the Under-13 category: Northern United versus Flow Lancers and at 4.00 p.m. Monchy will come up against T Valley.

Also on today, the Under-17 boys, from 5.30 p.m. Valley Soccer plays GMC United and at 7.00 p.m. Flames will fancy their chances against Flow Lancers FC.

Tomorrow from 10.00 a.m. in the Under-13 division, Valley Soccer versus FC Pioneers; at 11.30 p.m. RV Juniors plays New Generation; while GMC United will come up against CT Foundations at 1.00 p.m.

Today in the Southern Zone, from 10.00 a.m. in the Under-11 age group, DCYO versus Victory Eagles and Uptown Rebels plays RYO.

In Under-13 action from 12.00 noon, Victory Eagles will be up against Aux Lyon and Knights versus Shambala.

In the Under-17 division, from 3.00 p.m. RYO takes on Shambala and Black Panthers versus Knights at 5.00 p.m.

In senior men’s action, the SLFA Inc. Island Cup Super and Premier League competitions sponsored by the Government of Saint Lucia and powered by Smalta continues today and tomorrow at the Canaries playing field and the Phillip Marcellin Grounds (PMG) in Vieux Fort.

From 6.00 p.m. in Super League action the National Under-17 team will be looking to build on their momentum when they come up against South Castries at the PMG.

Three matches will be played in the Premiere League.

In a north versus south derby, unbeaten teams, Gros Islet and Vieux Fort South will face each other from 6.00 p.m. at the Canaries playing field and at 8.00 p.m. Marchand will come up against Mabouya Valley.

At the PMG, Central Castries who has been enjoying a torrid outing thus far in the tournament will be in search of their first win when they engage a Dennery team, beaming with confidence, at 8.00 p.m.

As the tournament enters the fourth round of matches in the competition the points standing make for interesting reading.

Super League: La Clery – 12 points; Vieux Fort North – 9 points; Micoud – 7 points; Laborie; 4 points; while the National Under-17; Soufriere and Choiseul are locked on 3 points.

The leading goal scorers are Andrus Remy of La Clery with five goals, Carlton Daniel of Micoud with four goals and Jonathan Allain of La Clery and Rai Gaspard of Micoud three goals each.

Points standing in the Premier League: Gros Islet – 7 points; Vieux Fort South and Dennery tied on 6 points; Roseau Valley – 5 points; Babonneau – 4 points and Canaries – 3 points.

The leading goal scorers are as follows: Aaron Richard – Gros Islet – 5; Kurt Frederick – Dennery – 4; Lincoln Phillip – Marchand – 2 and Yanick Noel – Babonneau – 2

On Thursday 8th, due to security concerns, the games in the Island Cup / Premiere League that were scheduled for the La Ressource playing field between Anse la Raye and Mon Repos, and Choiseul versus Soufriere were postponed until further notice.

Meanwhile,
On Wednesday 7th October and despite the wet surface two entertaining matches took place in the SLFA Island Cup Premier League at the La Ressource playing field in the Mabouya Valley.

In a hard fought encounter, Dennery was able to snatch all three points after defeating their neighbours and home team Mabouya Valley 2-0 courtesy of a brace (two) by No. 2 Kurt Frederick.

Kurt’s goals came off a penalty in the 56th minute of play and the other from a beautiful taken free kick just outside the area in the 8th minute of added on time.

In the second encounter, despite being one man short as a result of an expulsion, Vieux Fort South (VFS) was still able to trounce Central Castries 6-0.

It was a fine performance of attacking football by VFS as they displayed quite a lot of grit, purpose and determination, with a richly earned three points.

VFS got their goals with a brace (2) from Jevick Mc Farlane in the 45th and 61st minute; Gregson President in the 36th, Antonius Myers in the 53rd, Antonio Joseph in the 67th and Noah Nicholas in the 90th minute.

In a release from the headquarters of the SLFA, due to security concerns the games which were scheduled for the La Ressource Playing Field in the Mabouya Valley on Thursday 8th October has been postponed until further notice.

According to the SLFA, the scheduled games would have featured Anse La Raye versus Mon Repos from 6.00 p.m. and Choiseul playing Soufriere at 8.00 p.m. Both games are part of the Super League competition.
