Saint Lucian Volleyball Player Levi Leonce Named a 2019-20 Scholar Athlete

National volleyball player Levi Leonce has been named a 2019 -20 scholar – athlete by Heart of America Athletic Conference for exceptional academic achievements at Graceland University. Levi is majoring in Business Administration and participated in men’s volleyball during the 2019- 20 season.

The 20-year-old is a former member of Le Club Volleyball and student of St Mary’s College and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. Levi was a member of the Saint Lucia team at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Championship in Grenada (2018) where Saint Lucia won the bronze medal.

Levi was also a member of the Saint Lucia team to the Commonwealth Games in The Bahamas. Following his selection, he expressed: “My selection has aided my confidence as an individual and player. It has made me realize that hard work and consistency pays off. I feel honoured to be an ambassador for the sport and I look to represent my sport and country with pride and honour”.

In his own words: “Choosing the sport of volleyball has been one of the best decisions I have made. It has provided me with numerous opportunities to progress further in life, building a network of persons in all walks of life. A great socializing tool,” he noted.

National volleyball coach, Terry Verdant, a man of a few words who travelled to The Bahamas in 2017 with Levi spoke to the VOICE on Thursday and noted, “With good coaching Levi can be very good. He is very easy to coach; he is a very attentive and disciplined player. Levi has played on the senior national men’s team and performed outstandingly.”

“He is well mannered, and these attributes will take you very far.”

Before leaving for University, Levi was the President of the newly formed Ravens 758 Volleyball Club.

Meanwhile, in order to qualify for this honour, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), accumulated a minimum of 60 credit hours, completed at least five semesters of college and attended the nominating institution for at least two semesters prior to being nominated, and have documented participation in a varsity competition in the sport for which they are being nominated.

The Heart of America Athletic Conference named 99 Graceland student-athletes as scholar-athletes for the 2019-20 season due to their exceptional academic achievements. Graceland had the second highest number of scholar-athletes in the conference for 2019-20.
