Rugby 5s: Rogues 2 Champions Again

The SAB playing field came alive on Sunday 16th August 2020 when the Renegades Rugby Club in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) hosted another Rugby Tag 5s tournament. The second event thus far in two weeks.

A total of eight teams participated, Rogues Rugby putting forward three teams once again, two male and one female, Reela Rugby under the watchful eyes of Clovis Samuel; Whiptail Warriors (Male), Whiptail Rollers (Female), Blue Devils (comprising some of Saint Lucia Athletes/ Netballers) and Season Veterans.

After a preliminary eight matches to the quarterfinals, the results for the quarters were as follows.

Semi-final No. 1 – Reela versus Whiptail Warriors 6 – 2

Semi-finals No. 2 – Rogues 2 made light wok of Blue Devils defeating them 9 – 1

Rouges 1 had the better of Rogues Females 6 – 3

Whiptail Rollers (Female) had a hard fought encounter against the Season Veterans winning 7 -5

In the final round of matches for third place, following their 9 – 1 defeat at the hands of Rogues 2, Blue Devils regroup to beat Whiptail Warriors in a nail biter 5 – 4.

In the final, the experience Rogues 2 team with Jerry Charles and Leroy Lascaris in the mixed defeated a youthful Reela Rugby team in a close encounter 4 – 3.

The Player of the Finals went to Leroy “Hands” Lascaris of Rogues 2.

Sunday Rugby 5s was another exciting showpiece; the level of play was outstanding by all the participating teams.

The SLRFU Executive under the watchful eyes of President, Roger Butcher and Technical Director – Wayne Pantor is pleased to see that the clubs are taking a keen interest in hosting and participating in these local tournaments and looks forward to the next tournament under Whiptail Warriors banner on Sunday 30th August 2020 at the Monchy playing field from 10.00 a.m.
