THE grand final of the inaugural Super 16 Primary School Football tournament organised by the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and the Ministry of Education will take place tomorrow (Friday 6th December 2019) at the Sab Sporting Facility.
In the grand final, Gros Islet Primary takes on Richfond Combined; while for the third place silverware Vide Boutielle Primary plays Anse La Raye Primary.
The semifinals of the tournament took place on Tuesday 3rd December at the SAB Sporting Facility. Making it to that stage of the tournament were the four winners of the Intra District Primary Schools Football competition. Gros Islet Primary – District One; Vide Bouteille Primary – District Two; Anse La Raye Primary – District Four and Richfond Combined – District Five.
In the first encounter played from 11.00 a.m. Anse La Raye Primary School ruined their chances after conceding an own goal in the 32nd minute of play against the highly fancied Gros Islet Primary team.
No further goals were scored as the half ended 1 – 0 in favour of Gros Islet Primary in spite Anse La Raye’s attempts to equalized.
After the halftime break, the pendulum swung back and forth; Gros Islet Primary capitalised on their opportunities, with a another goal, this time scored by Jordan Peter, in the 55th minute to seize the initiative and book their way into the final as they ran away winners 2 – 0.
The second semifinal featured two teams who have been looking sharp throughout the tournament, Richfond Combined and Vide Bouteille Primary.
Richfond Combined asserted themselves with a goal from the penalty spot by Ethan Oculi in the 20th minute of play to hold the upper hand at the end of the halftime whistle 1 – 0.
In the second half Richfond Combined consolidated their position with a second goal by Ethan Oculi in the 48th minute to start a celebration and in the process sent the Vide Bouteille Primary School packing with a 2 – 0 victory.
