SLFA Island Cup – Day 3

The final set of matches in the first week of the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc. Island Cup sponsored by National Lotteries Authority took place at the Marchand Playing Field and the La Ressource Playing Field yesterday.

At the Marchand Playing Field, Canaries played South Castries at 6.00 pm while at 8.00 p.m. Roseau Valley took on Vieux Fort South.

At the La Ressource Playing Field, Mon Repos played Gros Islet at 6.00 p.m while La Clery took on Dennery at 8.00 p.m.

The matches were intriguing. Thus far, Vieux Fort South, Dennery, Gros Islet and Canaries have opened their account positively, and would be looking to continue along that vein.

On the other hand, La Clery drew their opening encounter, Roseau Valley and Mon Repos went down in theirs and will be looking to make amends. South Castries opened their campaign last evening.

To date a total of 19 goals have been scored in eight matches, Vieux Fort South (4 goals/3 points), Dennery (1 goal/3 points), Gros Islet (3 goals/3 points), Canaries (3 goals/3 points), and Micoud (2 goals/3 points)

La Clery, Anse la Raye, Central Castries and Mabouya Valley (0 goals/1 point each), Babonneau and Marchand (1 goal each/1 point), Laborie (2 goals/0 points, Roseau Valley, Mon Repos, Desruisseaux, Vieux Fort North (0 goals/0 points).

It is still early days, and it is highly anticipated that these matches will set the tone for the second week of competition starting on Saturday 27th July.

The leading goal scorers: Nick Longville 3 (Canaries), Jervic Mc Farlane 2 (Vieux Fort South), Tev Lawrence 2 (Gros Islet).
