Black Tie Gala raised over $10,000

DESERVING and talented students from low income households will benefit from donations made by corporate entities and private citizens, after the annual Black-Tie Gala hosted by the Daren Sammy Foundation on November 17th.

Dubbed ‘The Cotton Club,’ patrons were welcomed to a sophisticated setting—inside the Sandals Grande St. Lucian—which immediately transported them back to the Roaring 20’s; an era of exuberance and drama.

Guests, as well as the hosts, donned their best impressions of the literary classic, The Great Gatsby, with fur stoles, flapper dresses, crisp suits and luscious strands of pearls, whilst they sipped on chilled Champagne.

The evening started off with a formal setting with remarks by Mr. Daren Sammy, Founder of the Daren Sammy Foundation, and the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Allen Chastanet, who was in attendance.

Darren Sammy was the bright star at the Black Tie affair!

The evening then progressed into a night of dancing with entertainment provided by Saint Lucia’s top performers such as Teddyson John, Michael Robinson, Arthur Allain, Sedale, Ezra, and surprise Guest artiste, Cooyah, took the stage. DJ Hollywood HP continued to keep the crowd on their feet until the last moment.

But amongst the fringe, feathers and jazz, the theme of giving back was espoused throughout the night.

“It was always my dream to become an International Cricketer, and when that dream was realized, it was always my goal to give back.” Remarked Sammy.

“Had it not been for a few individuals who saw my potential, I would not be the man I am today; I would not be where I am today. It is heartwarming to see all those who equally share in my dream of a better Saint Lucia by making serious investments into the youth.”

Through auctioned items donated by premium sponsor, Chairman’s Reserve, Colombian Emeralds, Ladera Resort and Harry Edwards Jewelers, ticket sales and private donations, the Daren Sammy Foundation raised upwards of $10,000 for which all proceeds will go towards initiatives such as the Daren Sammy Foundation Scholarship, which covers, books, tuition fees, uniforms and more, every school year for successful applicants.
