THE traditional lighting up of the City of Castries popularly known as the Festival of Lights will be observed Monday night with the theme “Celebrate Light, Celebrate Jesus”.
This is the time of year when the Castries Constituency Council, in collaboration with other partners, decorate the commercial center of the capital with Christmas lights and themes signifying the birth of Jesus Christ.
The Council, this year will be collaborating with the Cultural Development Foundation for this traditional event.
Crews of workmen employed by the Council can already be seen around the city center and at the Derek Walcott Square laying the groundwork for the event.
“We have deployed our workforce to initiate the setting up of the lights so come next week we will see the beauty of those lights when the switch is turned on,” said Jason Hullingseed, the Council’s communications officer.
The Council, earlier this week received some assistance from the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) which donated EC$5000 for the purchase of lights to complement those the Council already has.
