NEXT Tuesday marks the last in the 2016 series of the Laureate’s Chair. The Saint Lucia Writer’s Forum is proud to host a giant in the cultural landscape of Saint Lucia: Mrs. June King Frederick.
A former dancer, Frederick is an advocate for the preservation of Saint Lucian culture through the empowerment of the next generation. Towards this end she formed Kiddie Crew. She has worked in many Caribbean islands and is the author of PITI KON NOU PITI, which continues with the preservation of the culture in particular the Saint Lucian Christmas traditions.
With Jounen Creole just passed and Christmas on the horizon, the November Laureate’s Chair has found a way to bridge the two festivals. Tuesday night will be one of reminiscing for some, introduction to others and an explanation for all. The book PITI KON NOU PITI, will be available that night at a special discounted price. With an interactive CD it will make a wonderful gift for Christmas.
In 2014 June Frederick with Kiddie Crew successfully hosted THE STORY OF TOM FOOL by Roddy Walcott. They repeated the feat this month with Roddy’s THE DEVIL AT CHRISTMAS.
June King Frederick is Saint Lucia’s delegate to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The Writer’s Forum meets every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. at the Castries Central Library. All writers of all genres, local and visiting, are invited to join the weekly meeting.
