ST. LUCIA recorded its 23rd homicide for the year when 31-year-old, Kieran Johnny aka “Ratel” of Mongouge, Choiseul succumbed to multiple stab wounds to his body last Saturday.
According to police, the wounds were inflicted by a known individual while Johnny was at a supermarket in the area.
This was one of several incidents of physical assaults committed over the past weekend. Other incidents include four motor vehicular accidents, two house fires and other minor occurrences.
Fire Prevention Officer, Stacy Joseph, explained that one house was completely destroyed and two people were transported to Victoria Hospital in a stable condition from the motor vehicular accidents with what appeared to be minor injuries.
“On Saturday, October 15, at approximately 6:05 a,m., the Fire Service responded to a house fire call on Austin Hill in DerniereRiviere, Dennery. On arrival, it was discovered that smoke was emanating from a wooden and concrete structure measuring approximately 24 by 48 feet. After conducting a scene size up, it was discovered that the fire was confined to the living and adjoining bedroom of the house,” she said.
She continued: “Upon gaining entry into the structure, a four-man rescue team conducted a search for the occupants. However, no one was recovered. The fire was then brought under control and subsequently extinguished by the responding crew. Investigations are o going into the cause of this fire.
“Also, on Saturday, October 15 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Fire Service responded to a house fire call on Roots Alley Lane, Vieux Fort. As a result, one dwelling house measuring approximately 22 by 40 feet was completely destroyed. No one was reported injured as a result of this incident,” Joseph said.
There was a total of 71 ambulance responses, over the weekend with 46 in the north and 25 in the south.
