Church Service, Parade In Castries Tomorrow.
THE Laborie La Maguerite Society held a successful honouring ceremony on last Sunday at the village market .
They assembled at the Cultural Hall and paraded to the Market Square. The programme included a number of activities among them song renditions which took the form of a dialogue between La Magwit and La Rose characters, remarks and a ‘hat parade’.
The honourees were: Mrs. Hermina Amos, Mrs. Josephine Blasse, Mrs. Henrietta Charles, Mrs. Martina Charles, Mrs. Maryanna “Lucille” Chicot, Mrs. Helen Emmanuel-Clery, Mr. Peter “Ti Clyde” Clery and Mrs. Luvina Louis.
Tomorrow Friday from 10:00 a.m., teachers and students from Districts 1, 2 and 3 as well as other members of the Maguerite Society will congregate at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for their annual celebration. The church service will culminate with a parade around Derek Walcott Square.
Later, a spectacular gwan séance will take place at the Dennery Multi-Purpose Centre from 8:00 p.m. Groups from Aux Lyons, Vieux Fort, DernièreRivière, Dennery, Laborie, Richfond Combined School and the Saint Lucia National Trust are expected to join in the celebrations.
The gwanfèt this year takes place on the feast day, Monday . The day’s activities commence with a church service from 10:00 a.m. at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. A parade will follow through the main street in Dennery to the grounds of the Dennery Multi-Purpose Centre where the groups will make presentations.
