AS an agency that promotes humanitarian diplomacy, the Ministry for Equity, Social Justice, Empowerment, Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Local Government has again partnered with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to provide assistance to vulnerable groups throughout the island.
“Addressing the needs and the challenges of the vulnerable and the marginalized requires a collective effort, a range of support and empowering interventions,” Permanent Secretary Donovan Williams said.
The Taiwanese Embassy and the people of Taiwan have consistently demonstrated holistic support, he added, evidenced by the scope of Taiwanese interventions in Saint Lucia and the deepening relations between organizations within the two respective countries.
The Simply Help Foundation is a Los Angeles-based charity established by a Taiwanese philanthropist. Last year, the foundation shipped a 20-foot container filled with supplies to Saint Lucia. The items were packaged by the Ministry’s staff and distributed through welfare officers and non-governmental organizations like the Salvation Army.
This year, the Ministry for Equity will begin the distribution of the contents of a 40-foot container from the Simply Help Foundation following a handover ceremony tomorrow at the Chase Gardens Human Resource Development Centre.
