Winner Will Get $18, 000
NOT only is Heineken Green Synergy back in 2016 with the event anticipated to be even bigger and bolder – but the grand prize purse has grown, too.
This year, DJs participating in the annual Green Synergy DJ Competition will be vying for a whopping EC$18,000 in cash and prizes for the ultimate winner in the DJ skills segment. The second place winner will receive EC$8,000 in cash and prizes. In the DJ Clash segment a cash prize of EC$8,000 (cash and prizes) are up for grabs for the first place and EC$4,000 (cash and prizes) second place.
This is by far the biggest prize money ever in the 12-year run of Heineken Green Synergy, which has become one of the biggest events on the annual social calendar here. The event is organized by Windward and Leeward Brewery Limited (WLBL).
Mindy-Luquiana Chicot, Junior Brand Manager – Global Brands, WLBL, says that this year not only has the bar been raised in terms of the prize money, but the intention is to have a really great crop of DJs at the finals.
“For this reason, the intention is to engage the deejays in a series of workshops ahead of the semifinals so that by the time they get to the finals, they know what is expected of them and will be able to put on a fantastic show for our Green Synergy fans who have overwhelmingly supported this event over the years,” Chicot says.
Heineken Green Synergy 2016 was officially unveiled with a press launch on Thursday, August 18 at the Palmville Meeting Room, Coco Resorts in Rodney Bay.
For this year’s competition DJs were required to submit a ten-minute demo ahead of an August 28 deadline to gain entry into the semi – finals. Additionally, last weekend saw the first two “live” Green Synergy events dubbed Heineken Green Synergy Reloaded taking place. The first was held at Twis Bar in Grande Riviere Gros Islet last Friday, while on Saturday was the turn of the Coastline in Vieux Fort.
There, DJs competed for a chance to enter the semifinals in both the skills and clash components. There was also an instant EC$500 cash prize for the clash winner on that night. Last year’s overall clash champion, Lil Yute, walked away with that prize.
Judging by the huge crowds at both events last weekend, it would appear that Heineken Green Synergy is back with a bang.
And so the stage is set for yet another Green Synergy Reloaded today at the River Bank in Micoud. Fans are asked to wear a touch of green to stand a chance to win special Heineken paraphernalia. DJs will also be given a final shot at qualifying for the semifinals in both the skills and clash segments. Ahead of this event, DJs will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop in Vieux Fort.
Following today’s event, the names of the Heineken Green Synergy clash semifinalists will be announced. However, the semifinalists in the skills segment have been chosen. They are DJ License, DJ Play, DJ Erv, DJ C-4, DJ Rufus, DJ Ratty, DJ Moko, DJ Needly, DJ Swali, DJ Pokey, DJ Shaba, DJ Static and Hyper Supreme.
This year’s Heineken Green Synergy semifinals will take place on the Base (Ka-Ka Bef) Vieux Fort on Sunday, September 18. The grand finals will be held at Pigeon Island on Sunday, September 25 and is expected to be the biggest Heineken Green Synergy yet with a number of surprises.
