Female Footballer Sasha Prospere
BY her own admission, Sasha Prospere never thought she would be in a position one day to capture the award for most goals scored in a women’s football tournament under the St. Lucia Football Association banner. Believe it or not, she stunned her opponents with her career hat trick and missed out on another three scoring opportunities.
The medium-built twenty one year old striker scored a hat trick on Sunday afternoon against Vieux Fort South in the third place playoff at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. She scored goals in the 42nd, 46th and 48th minute of play, taking her tally to nine in six matches played.
Following the encounter The VOICE spoke to the prolific goal scorer who is originally from Fond St. Jaques, Soufriere, and is the team captain.
“It feels great scoring three goals in the encounter. I really wanted to make it up, because I threw away a few scoring opportunities in the semifinal match against Mabouya Valley one week ago and it cost us a final berth,” Prospere said
VOICE: Your thoughts on the encounter against Vieux Fort South?
The Prospere: I felt Soufriere dominated; we could have scored a lot more including me. I think I could have gone up at least five goals, but I guess I did not compose myself well enough so I was unable to execute. But I am pleased with my team mates and happy with the outcome.
The VOICE: Tell me about your football exploits. Have you played at the national level before?
Sasha Prospere: Yes. I represented the Windward Islands, and I went to Trinidad and Tobago for the Olympic qualifiers in 2015 and 2016, but the team didn’t do too well.
The VOICE: Would you like to pursue football as a career?
Sasha Prospere: I am 21 years old and I would love to, if God has it in His plan for me to pursue I will. Hopefully, one day, be able to play at the professional level as well.
